At Life Story Collective, we know that the stories you share with us are deeply personal. Protecting your privacy matters to us, and we will never sell your personal information.
Life Story Collective (“we”, “us” or “our”) operates lifestorycollective.com.au (the “Site”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and store it, and the choices you have. We aim to handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
Depending on how you use our Site and services, we may collect:
- your name, email address, phone number and postal address
- payment and order details (card details are processed securely by our payment provider and are not stored by us)
- information you share when you contact us, book a chat or subscribe to our emails
- for life story clients: interview recordings, transcripts, photographs, documents and the stories, memories and family details shared with us during the writing process
Sensitive information
Life stories can include sensitive information, such as details about health, religion, cultural background or family relationships. We only collect this with consent, and only to write and produce your book. We treat it with particular care.
Information about other people
Life stories often mention family members, friends and others. If you share information about other people, please make sure you’re comfortable doing so. We use it only to create your story.
How we use your information
We use your personal information to:
- provide our services, including interviews, writing, editing and producing your book
- process and deliver orders, including digital downloads and printed products
- respond to your enquiries and manage bookings
- send you our newsletter and occasional updates, if you’ve subscribed
- improve our Site, products and services
We won’t use your personal stories for marketing, testimonials or any other public purpose without your written permission.
Emails and newsletters
If you subscribe to our emails, we may send you news, tips and offers we think you’ll enjoy. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
Who we share information with
We only share your information with trusted providers who help us run our business, and only as needed. These may include:
- video call platforms for interviews – Zoom
- transcription services – Tactiq and Pocket
- payment providers – Stripe
- our website and online shop platform – ThriveCart
- email marketing services such as Mailerlite
- printers and delivery services, for books and products
- designers or editors who help produce your book (if applicable)
Some of these providers may store data outside Australia, including in the United States. We choose providers that take privacy and security seriously.
We may also disclose information if required by law.
Website data and cookies
Like most websites, our Site collects some information automatically when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you view and how long you spend on them. We use tools such as Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our Site so we can improve it.
Our Site uses cookies, which are small files stored on your device. You can set your browser to refuse cookies or alert you when one is sent, although some parts of the Site may not work properly without them.
Keeping your information safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. Interview recordings and story materials are stored securely in password-protected cloud storage. No method of online transmission or storage is completely secure, but we do our best to keep your information safe.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only for as long as we need it. Interview recordings and working files are kept for 6 months after your book is completed, so we can make corrections or reprints, then securely deleted, unless you ask us to keep them longer or delete them sooner.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. Just email us and we’ll respond within a reasonable time.

If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated. If we make significant changes, we’ll let you know by email or with a notice on our Site.
